What are Alpine Plants?

Alpine plants are a large group of small flowering perennials found growing in mountainous regions described as above the tree line. Although not a family, the plants in this group share many of the same characteristics, meaning that they can often withstand exposed conditions and poor soil. Free draining, lightly moist soil and lots of sun will keep most of this group happy, but always check for individual requirements.

Generally Alpines are fully hardy and can fit into most parts of the garden, there is a species to brighten up all corners and crevices! You will usually spot them planted in rock and formal garden layouts. While this is a popular destination, they equally do well in containers, as border plants and on green roof sites. Versatile & usually very easy, suitable for novice gardeners.
