A well-loved and low growing alpine Dianthus suited best to the front of a border or rock garden. Native to the mountainous regions of Japan, this variety is best known as ‘Kahori’ meaning ‘fragrance’ in Japanese.
Slender grey to green foliage forms a tightly knit, evergreen ground-cover to 20cm tall. Deep pink flowers to 2cm across bloom freely throughout summer and then on into autumn. Prefers a well drained, sandy soil in a full sun site, although generally rather adaptable in this aspect. Regularly dead-head spent flowers to optimize performance and lightly cut back when flowering has finished to maintain a tidy appearance and shape. Great for pollinators and easy to care for.
